Mini donuts!

I have been working on this post for about a week since the filming of the video and experimenting with this recipe took some time, but finally it is ready and I am so excited to share this adorable recipe with you that you can make during these times.


I came across a mini donut cereal video from Tasty on Youtube a couple of days ago and I wanted to make these since then. I made these mini donuts in two sizes- extra mini and mini and I personally prefer the mini ones as I had more surface space to decorate them, but I find the extra mini ones are perfect with milk just like cereal. Also if your birthday is coming up you can make these festive treats for you and your family!Also note that the mini donut recipe is created by me even though the Tasty recipe is pretty similar.



Recipe-

For the donuts-

1 pack of boxed cake mix( I used chocolate fudge)

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg



For the glaze-

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

3-5 tablespoons of milk( put as much as you like according to if you like a thick or thin glaze)

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

1 drop red food colouring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract/paste


For decorations

Sprinkles or your choice-

I used coloured sugar, fondant flowers and dolphins and some flavoured stars.


Instructions-Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius or 360 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine all these ingredients in a large bowl and mix together with a whisk( remember that this batter is a lot thicker than traditional cake batter as we need a thick batter to pipe these out).

In a tall glass place a piping bag with half of the bag folded over the glass and with a spatula scoop in the batter.

After you have filled the bag more than half way full twist the top tightly and make a small cut at the end of the piping bag.

If you are making extra mini donuts then place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet and using the piping bag make small dollops, eventually you dollops with flatten out like thick disks,Place these in the oven for 6 minutes.If you are making the mini donuts then line a mini cupcake tray with some mini cupcake lines and pipe in the mixture until it's more then halfway full(also note that you may want to cut you piping bag's hole a little bigger). Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.

While your donuts are baking in the oven make the glaze by sifting the powdered sugar and then combing it with milk. For the chocolate glaze add the glaze in a separate bowl and combine with the cocoa powder, follow the same steps but instead or cocoa powder use the food colouring and/or vanilla extract.

After your donuts have baked let them cool for 10 minutes before dipping the mini donuts in the glaze and drizzling the glaze over extra mini ones.

As you can see in the photo below, these donuts can be a little bit messy but fun!


After your donuts are glazed, decorate and have fun. I like to make detailed mini donuts and fun and abstract extra mini ones.

Let the donuts sit outside for 3 minutes so the glaze dries up a little.

Enjoy

Store these donuts in an air tight container in the fridge for maximum 5 days(but I'm sure your donuts will be eaten by then)!
